CANYONVILLE LIBRARY ANNOUNCES 2023 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The Enchanted Forest – Up-Down And All Around
June 14 – July 26, 2023
Canyonville, Oregon – Canyonville City Friends of the Library announces Summer Reading Program 2023 – The Enchanted Forest – UP-Down and All Around! (SRP)
The “Summer Reading Program” (SRP) is a “themed” six-week program designed to engage children during their summer break from school through interactive programs. Thanks to our community partners, we are able to bring quality programming to children.
Children learn best when they are invested in the content presented and are given the ability to have a hands-on experience. Providing new and exciting programs for them helps improve their motivation, self-esteem, curiosity, and overall reading skills. In 2022, 187 participants attended seven programs and read 13,740 minutes, and the library gave away over 100 new books. Our SRP is geared to encourage reading for the fun of it.
The Canyonville Library’s SRP officially kicks off its 6th year on Wednesday, June 14th at noon with a special visit from “Smokey Bear” and his friends from the Tiller Ranger Station. After the presentation, kids will be given their book bags, logs, and information on how to win prizes all summer long just by reading!
This year’s theme is “The Enchanted Forest – UP-Down and All Around”; with a great line-up of presenters including – Oregon Rocks presented by the Museum of Natural & Cultural History, Tree Product Challenge & Origami Project presented by Paula Yablonski, MS TLC, Bugs R Us presented by John Jackson, Songs of the Forest with Joe Ross, a teen Tie Die program, and the final presentation features Animals in the Wild with our friends from the Wildlife Safari.
The program runs Wednesdays starting at noon from June 14th – July 26th. (There is no presentation on July 5th.).
Because of the generous support of individuals, local businesses, foundations, and a dedicated team of volunteers, we have been able to provide the residents of Canyonville, Days Creek, Milo, Tiller, and other unincorporated areas in between with a “Summer Reading Program” (SRP), along with other essential learning opportunities.
Community members interested in supporting the Summer Reading Program are encouraged to make a gift. About Us
In August of 2017, the Canyonville City Friends of the Library (FOL) opened as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation after the Douglas County Library System closed and funding was no longer available. The FOL began raising money to keep the doors open, and the lights on, grow our collections, and provide special programming to enhance the lives of those we serve.
